Building Community: Understanding Social Justice and our Schools

Sean Michael Wiley, a former teacher, and Michelle Mbekeani, a policy advocate and attorney in the area of disability rights and criminal justice reform, are Oak Parkers dedicated to social and racial justice. In the wake of a school incident that led to racial unrest in the community, E-Team organized a discussion about the competing interests and intersectionality of juvenile justice, adolescent development, public safety, and parenthood. Their presentation offered an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and engage in conversation and the even was broadcast on Facebook live to increase access.
